katy perry deposition denies dr. luke rape

A newly-unsealed deposition reportedly reveals Katy Perry denying she was raped by Dr. Luke.

According to PEOPLE, who procured court records stemming from the record producer's defamation suit against Kesha Monday (August 27), the Witness star supposedly repudiates the "Hymn" pop star's allegations he raped her in a testimony from July 21, 2017.

These charges emerged from Kesha's alleged correspondence with Lady Gaga via text messages dating back to February 2016, during which the musician supposedly confided to the "Born This Way" artist that Luke had sexually assaulted her and Perry.

Luke's attorney provided the publication the following statement Monday to the charges:

“The false narrative Kesha created about being raped became widely accepted, damaging Dr. Luke’s reputation irreparably. Compounding this malicious act, in 2016, Kesha told Lady Gaga that Dr. Luke raped Katy Perry, which is outrageous and untrue … Katy Perry testified under oath in this case that Dr. Luke never raped her. Regardless, Kesha refused to apologize. Instead, she issued a press release which again irresponsibly suggested that Katy Perry was actually raped by Dr. Luke. It seems that Kesha wanted to perpetuate the falsehood that Dr. Luke raped Katy Perry."

In light of Luke's statement, Kesha's legal team responded by denying she "defamed him by falsely stating he also assaulted Katy Perry" nor had any "independent knowledge" of the alleged assault. According to her team, those texts were prompted "shortly after Interscope CEO John Janick told Kesha and Lady Gaga he’d heard a rumor that Dr. Luke had also abused Katy Perry."

Gaga also acknowledged Janick's mentioning Luke's alleged assault against Perry in her own deposition, claiming, "He said he had heard a rumor … [Dr. Luke] raped Katy [Perry], too."

Seeing as his 2017 suite publicly cited third-party gossip, Kesha's lawyers are calling Luke's defamation claim "frivolous."

Another pop star to give an affidavit against Luke was American Idol alum Kelly Clarkson, who described him as being a "bully and demeaning": "People have said he is sleazy. People have said he is belittling, the same kind of things that I say … I don’t like him as a person."

Kesha is still embroiled in a legal war with Luke deriving from her rape allegations from 2014.
