The Cleveland Browns highlighted Chief of Staff Callie Brownson’s historic game Sunday (November 29).
Brownson became the first woman to coach an NFL position group during a regular-season game when the Browns squared off — and won 27-25 — against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Tight End Coach Drew Petzing is out on paternity leave, 19 News noted Monday morning (November 30).
“Callie is set to be the first woman to coach a position group in an NFL game as she fills in for our TEs coach Drew Petzing!” a tweet from the Cleveland Browns posted Sunday morning reads.
Brownson has held her position with the Browns since January, and made history another time this season.

On September 27, the Browns game against Washington marked “the first regular-season game in @NFL history to have a female coach on both sidelines + a female official,” the Browns tweeted at that time, along with a photo of Brownson, Washington coaching intern Jennifer King and NFL official Sarah Thomas.
Brownson also expressed excitement for other women blazing trails in football, noting the “smile on my face right now” when Sarah Fuller became the first woman to take part in a Power 5 game for Vanderbilt on Saturday (November 28).
