Alicia Keys' latest single is a tribute to those on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic.
On Thursday (April 23), during CNN's global town hall, the 15-time Grammy winner debuted the new track, titled "Good Job," in partnership with the network to use the song as the theme for a new CNN Heroes campaign in celebration of the ordinary people who've emerged as heroes during the COVID-19 crisis.
"You're doing a good job/Don't get too down/The world needs you now/Know that you matter, matter, matter, yeah," Alicia sings.
During Thursday's broadcast, the 39-year-old singer explained that she wrote the song months ago to honor the unsung heroes in her own life. "It has always been such a personal song and such a poignant song," she said. "And every time I play it, I want to cry because I'm thinking of my mother, I'm thinking of my grandmother, I'm thinking of friends of mine who can't make ends meet."
"A lot of times people don't feel like they're doing a good job. They feel underwater and like there's never going to be a brighter day," Alicia added. "Fast forward to now, with where we are now, and it's almost like the song was written for this and I didn't know it."
Alicia additionally shared the song on social media where she offered additional hope to those in need during these unprecedented times. "I wrote it for all the people that work so hard and never hear the words “Good Job," she captioned a video of her performing the track on the piano. "I believe in us though, I believe in the way we are showing up for each other and caring about each other. The way that we are all connected more than we’ve ever been before. This is for you. You’re doing a good job! 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽 ."
"Endless love to @therealswizzzand @thekingdream and @avenuebeatz for creating these beautiful words and music with me 💜💜Thank you@CNN," Alicia concluded.
