Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo has been suspended for one game after head-butting Washington Wizards center Moe Wagner on Tuesday’s (8/11) game.
The incident happened when Wagner took a charge against Antetokounmpo in the second quarter. Antetokounmpo seemed to be speaking angrily then followed Wagner to the other side of the court and head-butted him. The MVP candidate was then thrown out after the scuffle in the second quarter.
The NBA announced Giannis' punishment on Wednesday (8/12) saying he will miss the next Bucks game, which is against the Memphis Grizzlies.
According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the one-game suspension will cost Antetokounmpo $178,225.
"Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo has been suspended one game without pay for head-butting Washington Wizards center Moritz Wagner during a stoppage in play," the league said in the official statement. "The incident, for which Antetokounmpo was assessed a Flagrant Foul 2 and ejected, occurred with 8:50 remaining in the second quarter of the Bucks’ 126-113 win over the Wizards on Aug. 11 at Visa Athletic Center on the campus of ESPN’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando."
After the game, Antetokounmpo said his head-butt was a “terrible action” and that if he "could go back, turn back time and go back to that play, I wouldn't do it.''
