A Raleigh man was arrested and charged for the murder of a missing Apex woman. Emily Montgomery, 26, was reported missing by her family on Friday, November 27, but she has not been seen since before Thanksgiving. Jose Carlos Jacome-Granizo, 29, is now facing a murder charge for her death.
Montgomery's family grew concerned after they had not heard from the young mother for a few days. The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert on December 1, hoping someone could provide information about her whereabouts.
Montgomery's mother, Amy, posted a plea on Facebook December 5 asking for prayers for her daughter's return home, saying she wants "to know where my baby is."
In their search for Montgomery, Apex deputies "developed additional information and evidence" that led to Jacome-Granizo's arrest, according to a news release from the department. It is unclear what relationship they had or if they even knew each other.
Arrest records show that Jacome-Granizo has faced previous charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and assault on a female in October 2016 in Guilford County, according to CBS 17.
Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman told WRAL that Montgomery's body has not been recovered, but did not provide details that led to the murder charge against Jacome-Granzio.
Jacome-Granizo was arrested on December 9 and charged with first degree murder.
