American Airlines staff had to restrain a 13-year-old boy who became disruptive on a flight from Maui to Los Angeles, reports CBSLA.

The flight had to be diverted to Honolulu.

According to witnesses, the boy attempted to kick out the window next to his seat and became physical toward his own mother just an hour into the flight.

In the video obtained by CBSLA, the boy can be seen getting duct-taped to his seat by flight attendants and other passengers.

The flight left from the Hawaiian island of Maui on Tuesday, August 10, at 12:30 PM.M local time and was scheduled to land in Los Angeles five hours later.

Due to the incident with the boy, the place had to be diverted to Hawaii's capital, Honolulu.

"Customers were reaccommodated on other flights or provided hotel accommodations," an American Airlines representative said. "Safety and security is our top priority, and we apologize to our customers for any inconvenience this caused."

This isn't airline staff members' first time using duct tape to restrain an unruly passenger.

In July, staff had to duct tape a passenger to her seat. The passenger was caught trying to open a plane door in the middle of the flight.
