If you've been to a Pitbull concert recently, you may have noticed some fans dressed eerily similar to Mr. Worldwide, complete with bald cap and sunglasses, but have you ever wondered why? According to those who participate in the trend, it's to simply show their appreciation for the chart topper and their love for his hit songs.
The phenomenon has been going on for years, with fans, many of whom are women, paying homage to the "Timber" rapper by donning their very own Aviator sunglasses, fitted tuxedos and "clean-shaven" dome to channel his iconic style. A Liverpool-based content creator named Milli, who believes she was the first to start the trend, told The Independent that it's all about having a great time with friends listening to energetic music.
"His look is so signature. You don't even have to explain who you are," she said. "For Halloween, lots of girls — myself included — we dress up but still want to look quite fit. This concert, you won't have a care in the world. You just want to have a great time with your mates.
When the man himself recently reshared a video from two years ago of her with a scribbled-on beard dancing to "Fireball," the 22 year old was blown away.
"I couldn't believe it. I was screaming," she said. "He's my go-to party music. So, when I saw him repost, I'm still in shock now. It's going on my CV."
Another 24-year-old woman, who missed out on getting tickets to the European leg of his Party After Dark Tour, said Pitbull's legacy has endured and indeed continues to gain traction because "his discography is unmatched."
"I refuse to believe there are people that aren't Pitbull fans. There's no one that wouldn't bop about when his songs come on... High key, his lyrics are inspirational," she said. "I'm not sure I am more gutted that I don't get to see Pitbull or that I don't get to dress up in a bald cap. Because that just seems quite liberating."
