Chris Perez's world seemed to collapse, on March 31, 1995, as his wife and singer for his Tejano band Los Dinos, Selena was murdered by the former president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldivar. After a period of mourning, Perez made his return to music with a new Rock en Espanol group, the Chris Perez Band, featuring La Mafia bassist Rudy Martinez, former Los Dinos keyboardist Joe Ojeda, vocalist John Garza and drummer Jesse Esquivel.
