Founded by former members of Swedish Viking metal group Mithotyn, Falconer emerged in 1999 with a style that infuses traditional melodic power metal with elements of Nordic folk and medieval music. Issuing an eponymous debut album in 2001, the band has gone on to release a string of acclaimed releases like Northwind (2006) and Armod (2011) that blend elements of fantasy, Scandinavian history, and mythology with evocative instrumental prowess. The band ceased operations in 2020 after the arrival of their ninth and final studio album, From a Dying Ember.
