João Donato was a massively influential figure in the history and development of bossa nova and Brazilian jazz. The pianist, composer, and arranger recorded more than three dozen albums under his own name, and had thousands of credits. He worked with virtually every Brazilian master, both male and female, for generations. Further, he worked with Latin music masters including Mongo Santamaria and Tito Puente, and played trombone with Eddie Palmieri's La Perfecta.
