While coming mainly from the Prairie provinces of Canada, it wasn't until 1998 that the three members of Mico found each other. John Stewart, Todd Lapp, and drummer Troy Fleishhakker were performing first in Banff, Alberta, before relocating to Calgary. There they met and added another guitarist, Todd Harkness, and also guitarist and backing vocalist Patrick May.
