Coming on like a soulful yet unholy amalgam of the Mekons, Thin Lizzy, the Jackson 5, and the MC5, Pennsylvania's Sheer Mag distill big '70s riffs and garage punk attitude into a hook-filled, lo-fi dance party. It was a vibe they embraced full force on both 2017's Need to Feel Your Love and 2019's A Distant Call. Balancing hard rock with forays into country twang and hooky AM pop, they returned in 2024 with Playing Favorites, their first effort for Jack White's Third Man Records.
