Like Yellow Magic Orchestra, Telex were formed by established musicians who debuted as a trio in 1978 with a bright and futuristic electronic sound -- utilizing synthesizers and processed vocals -- that at the same time raided pop's past. By some measures, the Belgian group were more successful abroad than at home. In the U.K., they scored a Top 40 hit with their mellow version of "Rock Around the Clock" (the rockabilly oldie popularized by Bill Haley), which was soon followed by a couple placements on Billboard's U.S. club chart.
