Detroit's Clark Sisters are the most successful female group in gospel music history. Assembled by their mother, Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, their influence is so pervasive that they're credited with creating the contemporary gospel genre. During the 1980s and '90s, their original songs, such as "You Brought the Sunshine" and "Is My Living in Vain," crossed over to the R&B and pop charts.
