It's finally here! After teasing fans all week, Major Lazer has finally released their brand new single featuring Justin Bieber and MØ, "Cold Water," and we already CANNOT get enough. In fact, we're not sure what's hotter (despite the track's title), this song or the summer weather.
"Cold Water" is a little different from what we're used to hearing from Major Lazer, and shows off just how versatile they can be with their production talent. The track is definitely more pop-leaning, boasting a tropical dance beat from ML, as well as guitar riffs and a synth melody you won't be able to get out of your head. Not to mention vocals from Justin Bieber and MØ singing lyrics like "And if you feel you're sinking/I will jump right over into cold cold water for you."
About Major Lazer's new single "Cold Water"
Major Lazer, which consists of Diplo, Jillionaire, and Walshy Fire, definitely have a contender for song of the summer with "Cold Water." The song features the vocals of Justin Bieber, who Diplo has worked with in the past on previous hits like "Where Are Ü Now," as well as Danish singer/songwriter MØ, who is featured on Major Lazer's chart-topping collab with DJ Snake "Lean On." The song was co-produced by Major Lazer with Ed Sheeran (who in December announced to fans he was taking some time off), and Benny Blanco. Diplo says of the new single:
“I had been trying to link with Benny Blanco and Ed Sheeran for years. The timing was right and the song was perfect and Justin was in love with it, so it all came together. I think the result is a record that sounds really fresh and interesting.”
Major Lazer released their last album Peace Is The Mission in 2015, but are expected to release a new album called Music Is The Weapon. Could "Cold Water" be the first single from the record? In April 2015, Diplo told us that the group's next album would be more pop-focused. "MO, she also wrote the records with us that are on the next album. The second one is finished. It's got bigger features. It's more pop oriented."
