Sixteen years after the release of his debut album, Country Grammar, Nelly's project just went certified diamond.
That's right. The album that made Nelly Mo' a groundbreaking superstar has finally sold 10 million copies.
While attending a benefit on Monday (July 25), the rapper was surprised with his diamond plaque. He spoke about the award yesterday (June 26) on his IG. Read his message below.
Country Grammar was an instant hit when it was released in 2000, selling over 245,000 copies its first week. It would go on the spend six weeks in the #1 spot on the Billboard Hip Hop/R&B charts.
This album is only the 8th hip hop project to go diamond by the RIAA in history. Some past hip hop albums to be honored with this accolade include Tupac's All Eyez On Me, Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show, Outkast's Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, and The Beastie Boys' Licensed to Ill.
But, wait a second. Nelly received a 2nd award on Monday night, too. He was also gifted with a trophy for his Florida Georgia Line--who'll be performing at the 2016 iHeartRadio Music Festival--collaboration, "Cruise." It turns out the single is the longest running #1 country single in history.
Nelly stays winning.
