Black Eyed Peas Release New Version Of 'Where Is The Love?' With Mary J. Blige, DJ Khaled & More
September 1, 2016
Over a decade ago, The Black Eyed Peas raised social awareness with their Justin Timberlake-featured hit, "Where Is The Love?" and, unfortunately, it's still a song that resonates with what's going on in the world in 2016. That's why will.i.am got the band together to re-record the 2003 hit with plenty of famous faces.
In the just-released version, which dropped on Thursday (September 1), BEP gives the original Elephunk cut a facelift with vocal contributions from Mary J. Blige, Diddy, Andra Day and, of course, JT (to name just a few) and a new black and white music video, which features some of the heartbreaking images we've seen in the news in recent weeks.
Rappers like The Game and A$AP Rocky also appear on the track to back the Black Lives Matter movement and sound off on the forthcoming United States presidential election. The reinvention was inspired by the tragic events like the attacks in Paris, Belgium and Turkey, the killing of police officers in Dallas as well as Philando Castile and Alton Sterling and the Orlando mass shooting.
“Everyone was calling on us,” will.i.am told ATTN:. “Like, ‘We need that song again.' Millennials are powerful. I don’t think they realize just how powerful they are. . . .I hope this song inspires the millennials to go all out, scream from the tallest mountain, care like your freedom depends on it. Pay attention like that is at risk."
Among some of the additional appearances in the video include Sandra Sterling, Jamie Foxx, Nicole Sherzinger, Jessie J, Ty Dolla $ign, Tori Kelly, French Montana, LL Cool J, DJ Khaled, Usher, Jaden Smith, Jessie J and more. Proceeds for "#WHERESTHELOVE" will go to charity to raise funds for education, under funded communities and victims of police violence.
