In between her hectic promotional circuit for "The Voice," Miley Cyrus took to our 2016 iHeartRadio Music Festival on Friday night (September 23) for a surprise duet of "Rebel Yell" alongside music legend Billy Idol that had viewers, young and old, buzzing.
Idol, who kicked off night one of our Las Vegas affair with an introduction by Ryan Seacrest, started his set with numbers like "Dancing With Myself" and "Flesh For Fantasy," but it wasn't long before he took off his shirt and introduced the 23-year-old pop star.
"Right now singing with me is Miley Cyrus. Let's hear it," he told the sold-out T-Mobile Arena before venturing into his 1983 hit.
Rocking customized Idol sunglasses, jacket and pants, Cyrus marched on stage with enough angst to fill up the entire arena. For the performance, the pair's twin goals went far beyond ensembles. They rocked out, traded lines and walked side-by-side down the catwalk until they were joined by his band. To think it has only been three years since she graced our 2013 iHeartRadio Music Festival with her "Candy Land"-esque set, pasties and overload of twerking.
While we haven’t heard new tunes from pop’s wild child in more than a year, that's not to say that she hasn’t graced us with those vocal chops. Just last week, Miley took to “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” for a gorgeous cover of the Odetta-inspired rendition of Bob Dylan's "Baby, I'm in the Mood for You." Still, both performances reaffirm our longing sentiments on the matter. We miss seeing Miley on stage.
Prior to his set, the 60-year-old rocker sort of teased the surprise with iHeartRadio's very own Paul Costabile, citing "Rebel Yell" as the one song that he never gets tired of singing. It sure doesn't get tiresome when you have Miley help you out on the track.
