As many hip hop lovers know, Suge blasted a certain someone in a speech. While accepting the award for Best Motion Picture Soundtrack (won by Death Rowâs Above the Rim), Suge said something that many thought was aimed at Puff. These words, unfortunately, added fuel to the east coast/west coat rivalry fire. The Death Row CEO said:
One thing Iâd like to say,â he said while accepting the award for Best Motion Picture Soundtrack. Any artist out there that wanna be an artist, and wanna stay a star, and wonât have to worry about the executive producer trying to be all in the videos, all on the records, dancingâââcome to Death Row!
Sharing details of this historic moment for the first time, Puff admitted that he pulled up on Suge after this, in The Tunnel nightclub. However, Suge shocked him when the west coast figure revealed that he wasn't talking about Puff. Instead, he was talking about Jermaine Dupri. Puff recalled:
So when I ran up and asked him, he said, âNah, I was talking about Jermaine Dupri. At that point, I was scared because I know the wolves that was with me. They was like real-life wolves. And I from Harlem. I donât want no violence, no danger , none of that sh**. So I really put it in my head that it gave me reason for my ego to walk away.
Another rap case closed. Check out the interview above.
