Best Song From A Movie: Justin Timberlake, twenty one pilots, 5 Seconds of Summer & More
February 27, 2017
With this weekend's Academy Awards fresh on everyone's mind, awards season is far from over. This coming weekend, on March 5th, the iHeartRadio Music Awards will take place at The Forum in Los Angeles. Like the Oscars had a Best Original Song category, this Sunday's awards show will reveal the winner of Best Song from a Movie.
The nominees for Best Song from a Movie this year are Justin Timberlake's "CAN’T STOP THE FEELING" from Trolls, Ellie Goulding's "Falling for You" from Bridget Jones's Baby, 5 Second of Summer's "Girls Talk Boys" from Ghostbusters, twenty one pilots' "Heathens" from Suicide Squad, and P!nk's "Just Like Fire" from Alice Through the Looking Glass.
Fans voted for which song they believed deserved to win, but before the winner is revealed this weekend, we're taking a closer look at each song, ahead of the festivities. Check it out below.
"CAN’T STOP THE FEELING" - Justin Timberlake (Trolls)
As soon as Justin dropped "Can't Stop The Feeling!" in the late spring of 2016, fans were already calling the track the Song of the Summer, and it turned out to be the best-selling song of 2016 -- but can it win Song of the Year at the 2017 iHeartRadio Music Awards? Released for the movie Trolls, which Timberlake served as the executive music producer for as well as voiced one of the main characters Branch, "Can't Stop The Feeling!" was our first new song from the recording artist since his pair of The 20/20 Experience records. The song topped the charts and achieved multi-platinum status in multiple countries across the globe -- fans everywhere just couldn't stop the feeling (but why would they want to?). "Can't Stop The Feeling" was nominated for an Oscar this year for Best Original Song, and while it may have lost to "City of Stars" from La La Land, it COULD win Best Song from a movie on Sunday!
"Still Falling for You" - Ellie Goulding (Bridget Jones's Baby)
"Still Falling For You" is the third song Ellie Goulding has done for a movie, following Divergent's "Beating Heart" (2014) and Fifty Shades of Grey's "Love Me Like You Do" (2015). This time, she contributed "Still Falling for You from Bridget Jones's Baby. The song, written by Tove Lo, has achieved Gold Status Australia, as well as Silver status in the UK, and is the first new music we've heard from Ellie since she released her 2015 album Delirium.
"Girls Talk Boys" - 5 Seconds of Summer (Ghostbusters)
While our good buddies 5SOS have been out on the road, touring all over the world, the guys gave us a new song to tie us over as we count down the days until their next full-length album. The song, "Girls Talk Boys" is from the new Ghostbusters film (alternatively known as Ghostbusters: Answer the Call), which starred Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth. "Girls Talk Boys" was released in July 2016, and has charted in multiple countries across the globe.
"Heathens" - twenty one pilots (Suicide Squad)
If you have listened to the radio at all this year, then you heard this song. "Heathens" is from Suicide Squad and is not only nominated for an iHeartRadio Music Award for Best Song from a Movie, it's also up for Alternative Rock Song of the Year, Best Lyrics, and Best Music Video. The track was penned by twenty one pilots' own Tyler Joseph, and has achieved multi platinum status in countries including the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Italy, and New Zealand. "Heathens" also hit No. 1 on the US Hot Rock Songs chart, as well as No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100, US Adult Top 40, and US Mainstream Top 40 charts. The song tied with the duo's single "Stressed Out" for their highest charting single to date, and was also nominated for three Grammy Awards this year.
"Just Like Fire" - P!nk (Alice Through the Looking Glass)
It's been a while since we've heard a new album from Alicia Beth Moore -- AKA P!nk -- her last record being The Truth About Love in 2012. But in April 2016, she dropped "Just Like Fire," a song for Alice Through the Looking Glass. The track was co-written by P!nk, Max Martin, Shellback, and Oscar Holter, and like many of P!nk's previous singles, became a hit. "Just Like Fire" hit No. 1 on the US Adult Contemporary chart, No. 2 on the US Adult Top 40 chart, No. 7 on the US Mainstream Top 40 chart, and No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track has also achieved Platinum status in the US and Canada, Triple-Platinum status in Australia, Gold status in Italy and New Zealand and Silver in the UK.
