The Backstreet Boys Turned Down The Opportunity To Record *NSYNC's First Hit
March 2, 2017
When you think back to the golden age of "TRL," it's hard to deny the string of pop classics that the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC produced. However, according to a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, BSB passed on the opportunity to record one of their pop nemesis' most memorable cuts.
In promotion for their "Larger Than Life" Las Vegas residency, which kicked off on Wednesday (March 1), two of the Backstreet Boys spoke with the outlet about the early days. Asked which of *NSYNC's cuts they wish they would have recorded, AJ McLean selected "(God Must Have Spent) A Little More Time on You," calling the track "dope." Meanwhile, Nick Carter preferred "Tearin' Up My Heart,'" confessing that the pop hit was first pitched to the Backstreet Boys.
"We actually turned it down because we didn’t have time to record it or something. We should have taken it," he told the outlet.
"Tearin' Up My Heart'" was *NSYNC's second single from their self-titled debut LP, which was released in Germany in 1997 and then hit America the following year. It was their very first hit that helped propel the boyband onto the charts and the predecessor single for "God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You." Relive the *NSYNC magic below!
