Metallica's 10th studio album Hardwired...To Self-Destruct has officially sold over 1 million copies according to Billboard. This brings the total number of records sold by the thrash legends to 58 million albums in the U.S. in the Nielsen Music era, with their self-titled record selling a whopping 16.6 million copies.

Billboard breaks down the technicalities of Metallica's recent album sales:

With another 4,000 copies sold in the latest tracking week, Hardwired… To Self-Destruct surpasses 1 million in total U.S. sales, as its to-date sum rises to a little more than 1,004,000. The former No. 1 set is the band's 12th album to sell at least a million copies since Nielsen Music began tracking sales in 1991. Some of Hardwired's sales were driven by a well-received concert ticket/album bundle sale redemption promotion with the band’s stadium tour.

Drummer Lars Ulrich said he was blown away by their self-titled album's constant sales while speaking with Metal Hammer last year. "It's pretty amazing that 5000 people still buy The Black Album every week in the US. I think you file that one under 'mindf**k."
