Talk about breaking the "Silence." Producer/DJ Marshmello has had an incredible last few years, each one better than the last. Between 2016 and 2017, the mysterious man behind the smiling marshmallow mask has teamed up with several talented pop stars for some incredible collaborations, including Tinashe, Wrabel, Noah Cyrus, and more (not to mention a song with Selena Gomez on the way). But most recently, Marshmello has joined forces with one of the most buzzed about artists of 2017: Khalid (who will be performing during the Daytime Village at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in September).
Marshmello and Khalid recently revealed their new single called "Silence," an addictive track that sees the American Teen singing about a relationship -- or lack thereof. He sings in the first verse, "Yeah, I'd rather be a lover than a fighter/'Cause all my life, I've been fighting/Never felt a feeling of comfort/All this time, I've been hiding." The track was written by Khalid, and produced by Marshmello.
While we're thoroughly enjoying "Silence," it seems Marshmello has a lot more up his sleeve. He recently teased his Twitter followers with the possibility of a Logic collaboration, tweeting "Did the Logic vocals come in yet?!" The DJ tells iHeartRadio "no comment" on the subject during our "Silent Interivew 'In His Words'" (below), so we'll just have to keep our ears out for that one.
The secretive producer also opened up a bit about his Khalid collaboration. "Silence," is a song that "came randomly and organically" and is his "first slower song." He recently confessed on Twitter that when he listens to "Silence," he "can't help but get emotional about everything in life," and this is due to the meaning and lyrics of the chorus.
In fact, Marshmello revealed to us that his favorite lyrics in the song are in the very first line: "I'd rather be a lover than a fighter."
Marshmello also illustrated himself and Khalid "at one with the Silence," and it's pretty adorable.
Keep your eye out for more new music from Marshmello this year, and you can catch the DJ on tour at several upcoming music festivals and shows in cities across America. Check out his tour dates HERE.
