Maroon 5 Teams Up with SZA on New Single 'What Lovers Do' (LISTEN)
August 30, 2017
What do lovers do? Just ask Maroon 5. Or better yet, listen to their new song "What Lovers Do," which features one of music most buzzed about artists right now: SZA.
"What Lovers Do" is another dance-worthy tune from the guys, and is all about that point in a relationship where you're deciding what both parties want Adam and SZA sing in the bridge, "Are we too grown for games?/Are we too grown to play around?/Young enough to chase/But old enough to know better." And in the chorus, Levine croons (and sings his best "Oooohs"), "Been wishin' for you/Ooh, ooh/Try to do what lovers do."
"What Lovers Do" follows Maroon 5's previous two singles "Don't Wanna Know" featuring Kendrick Lamar and "Cold" featuring Future. The track was written by Starrah, and produced by Jason Evigan, whose production credits include Demi Lovato ("Heart Attack"), Jason Derulo ("Talk Dirty"), Fifth Harmony ("Miss Movin' On"), and more.
The official "What Lovers Do" music video is on its way, and "it promises to be another larger-than-life cinematic affair." Fans got already got a glimpse of the visual earlier in the week when Adam Levine posted a short behind-the-scenes clip to social media from the music video set, laying in a hospital bed with his leg elevated, then panning the camera to SZA. He described her as the "evil nurse, love of my life in the video." He added, "It's tragic."
This is the "new era" for Maroon 5 as noted by Adam Levine on Instagram a week ago. Along with a series of live photos, the frontman teased that the band's sixth studio album is almost here. He wrote, "We're ready. #LP6 #Maroon5 #comingsoon."
Maroon 5's yet-to-be-titled new album will follow 2014's V, which achieve Platinum status in the US and topped the Billboard 200 chart.
