Teen Rejects Tacky Style That Mother Dressed Her In For Years

When Sasha Bennington was 11, she appeared in the documentary Too Much Too Young: Teen Body Obsession. Her mother, Jayne Bennington, once had dreams of becoming a model herself, but now wanted a lifestyle of glamour and pageantry for her daughter.

Jayne had no qualms about dressing her young daughter in short skirts and makeup.

“At the end of the day, the makeup and short skirts are out there, and then most people complain when kids use them. It’s ridiculous,” Jayne said in 2008. “Each child needs to stand out, and it’s down to the individual [to decide] what they want to wear. Each child to their own.”

The mother even said she would support her daughter if she wanted breast implants.

“Jordan is her idol, and she has breast implants. And she is a successful and nice woman. And if my daughter wants the same and can afford them, it will be down to her,” she said.

However, four years later, Jayne sang a much different tune. Her daughter ditched pageants for something much different: boxing. The pair seem happier for it, too.

“Because I had been on TV and was entering beauty pageants, I would get picked on,” Sasha said. “I wanted to be able to stand up for myself if I needed to, so I went down to the boxing gym and discovered I was good at it.”

Sasha ditched fake nails and makeup to get in the boxing ring.

“I was obsessed about my looks,” the 15-year-old said. “I thought it was the most important thing, but now I know differently.”

Even Jayne admits that she should have never forced the superficiality on her kids, but at the time, the mother genuinely thought she was doing what was right.

“Looking back, I shouldn’t have done it. I shouldn’t have tried to make Sasha look like Jordan. I regret it, and would do things differently,” Jayne said. “I just wanted to give my children the best and make them happy. But I couldn’t have gone on spending what I did.”
