Pastor Carl Lentz, Justin Bieber's recent confidant at the Hillsong Church of New York City, finally spoke out against rumors that he was the reason for Bieber canceling his world tour.
On Friday (October 27) Lentz joined the hosts of "The Breakfast Club" to talk about his new book, Own the Moment, for a whopping 37 minutes as fans waited to hear the first official single off Migos' Culture II.
When Bieber canceled the tour back in July, people were quick to speculate that Lentz was at the core of the decision, as Bieber spent the following days by his side. Just as Lentz admitted to briefly before, he told "The Breakfast Club" that he did not make the decision for Bieber, but supported the decision that Bieber brought to him.
"People who speculate like that don't have any context of what it means to have a pastor or a friend and Justin made his own calls. He made his own decisions. It's not my role to tell this boy, this man really, man of God, what to do," Lentz explained. "He's gonna do what he's gonna do and I'm going to sit there and say, 'I'm with you.' If he asks for advice, I would give it. But that's not my primary role."
Lentz questioned the logic of the claim, pointing out, "Why would I want Beliebers mad at me?" It's nearly impossible to argue with that. After all, Bieber did post a heartfelt letter to Instagram in August explaining his reasons for canceling the tour, but that was not enough to satisfy fans.
Lentz seemed to be a bit frustrated with the nature of the "bromance" rumors, as he's been married for 14 years and most of the pictures spread are not even of him. He asked, "How desperate are we to manufacture stories?"
Just before he went into detail on advising Bieber, Lentz attempted to draw some connections between pornography and sexual assault accusations, referring to porn as a destructive force for everyone involved. The hosts had a difficult time understanding what he was trying to express and turned the conversation to his "bromance" with Bieber quite quickly.
