Ted Danson Opens Up About 22-Year Marriage To Mary Steenburgen

It seems like there’s a major Hollywood breakup or divorce in the news every other day.
It also seems like no celebrity couple is immune to the “curse” that appears to doom all Hollywood marriages to fall apart at one time or another.
But a few long-lasting celebrity relationships challenge that notion. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, for one, have made their decades-long love story last despite the fact that they’ve never actually gotten married — and it’s clear that they’re happier than ever! Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. are another famous pair who have been married for 15 years, which is practically an eternity in Hollywood.
But one of my favorite Hollywood marriages has to be between Cheers star Ted Danson and Academy Award-winning actress Mary Steenburgen. In a recent interview, Ted opened up about his wife and shed some light on how their marriage has remained so solid.

According to The Good Place actor’s recent interview with AARP, Ted and Mary met on the set of Pontiac Moon in 1993.

At the time, Mary was a single mother of two kids (with ex-husband Malcolm McDowell) and Ted had recently ended his second marriage following a highly publicized affair with Whoopi Goldberg.

“I was a mess-and-a-half,” he admitted.
“I thought, I’m incapable of being in a relationship. But I was working on myself. Ironic how life works in those moments. Once you throw your arms up and surrender, a lot of times things come your way.”
