Niall Horan

Niall Horan is definitely no stranger to the pop world after being a part of one of the biggest boy bands in the last ten years, One Direction. But he IS a new solo artist. And he’s also this year’s iHeartRadio Music Award winner for Best New Pop Artist!

After a hugely successful year for all the nominees in this category, and after a close race, Niall is this year’s Best New Pop Artist. He was nominated alongside some fellow new pop stars who’ve also had an amazing year, including Julia Michaels, Camila Cabello, Logic, and fellow One Directioner Liam Payne.

In his acceptance speech, Niall said of the win as he was in tour in Dublin in his native Ireland:

"I just want to say a massive thank you for voting for me to be the best New [Pop] Artist. It's been an unbelievable 2017 for me. I’m looking forward to an even better 2018."

Niall has had an incredible year, and found his sound as a solo artist. After each One Direction member went in their own separate direction (pun very intended), Niall released his debut solo single "This Town," and then eventually (after much anticipation) dropped his debut solo album Flicker, which featured his hit song "Slow Hands" and duet with Maren Morris "Seeing Blind." And speaking of Maren, she will be joining Niall on his "Flicker World Tour" this summer.

But it doesn’t just end at Best New Pop Artist for Niall, as he is also nominated for Best Lyrics (for "Slow Hands"), Best Cover Song (for his cover of Julia Michaels's "Issues"), and Best Solo Breakout, all of which were socially voted categories. For Best Solo Breakout, he is nominated along with all of his fellow One Direction buddies, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson, as well as Camila Cabello. Will Niall win? Find out on March 11th!
