Chrissy Teigen Spills Why She Didn't Take John Legend’s Last Name

Chrissy Teigen's social media clapbacks are becoming weekly occurrences and her most recent response centered around women who don't take their husband's last name and, in her case, that means John Legend. 

On Thursday (March 22), the 32-year-old cookbook author responded to an old tweet that has gone viral about not taking a husband's last name. "I'd really like to hear the reasoning behind women who won't take their husband's last name," the tweet read. So why didn't Chrissy Legend ever become a thing? "My husband didn't even take his last name?" she sarcastically responded. Teigen's response referred to the fact that Legend isn't actually John's last name. Yes, there's a fun fact for those that didn't know. John Legend is actually a stage name. Everyone's favorite R&B piano playing singer was born John Roger Stephens, which is why the couple's first child is named Luna Stephens. 

Back in 2008, the then-newcomer told MTV News that the name was sort of inherited based on his early years. "John Legend is a nickname that some friends started calling me, and it kind of grew into my stage name," he explained. "'Legend' is something that I never would have chosen for myself originally. It grew to the point where more people in my circle would know me by that name than by my real name. I had to make a decision."

Teigen is expecting her second child, a baby boy, with Legend, but based on her late February appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, it doesn't seem like the star-studded couple has chosen a name yet.
