Demi Lovato has broken her silence on Sunday (August 5) for the first time since being hospitalized for a drug overdose

“I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction,” The 25-year-old singer wrote in an Instagram message. “What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet.”

Demi thanked her fans for their outpouring of love and support over the past few weeks. "Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time." She also thanked her family, team, and the medical staff at Cedars-Sinai, who "have been at my side this entire time. Without them I wouldn't be here writing this letter to you."

Demi signed off by telling her followers that she now needs "time to heal and focus on my sobriety." She promised to keep fighting, saying she looks forward to the day she "can say I came out on the other side.
