Six months ago, director Kevin Smith suffered a massive heart attack that could have killed him. Having survived, he asked his doctor what he could do to prevent another. She suggested he lose 50 pounds and now, half a year later, the "Silent Bob" portrayer has done just that and he looks nothing like he used to.
The filmmaker behind movies like Clerks and Mallrats went from 256 pounds to 205, and now weighs less than he ever has since high school. On his Instagram, Kevin put up side by side shots of himself from 2008 and today to show how he is nothing like the man he was a decade ago. He wrote, "A benefit to dropping lbs. is now I get to play with the past and make lotsa before & after pics."
Smith has lost the weight with the help of Weight Watchers, but also by following his 19-year-old daughter's vegan diet, which is all plant-based foods, something that he struggled with because he hates vegetables.
Kevin also thanked all his fans for their encouragement, writing, "Never underestimate the power of positive feedback: you folks telling me I looked better or healthier helped me stick with it. An encouraging word can really make a difference in someone’s life and your compliments kept me going! And just look where I went!"
Smith isn't done yet - he hopes to shed another 10 pounds so he can, as he jokingly said, "get down to my birth weight of 195."
