Oh, Kanye.
On Tuesday (October 2), the "All Mine" rapper announced that his father, Ray West, was cancer free after his three-month battle with prostate cancer. However, Kanye West wouldn't be Kanye West without delivering the news in the most... Kanye way. "Overcome fear," he captioned an Instagram photo of a plate of bugs. "My dad and I are going to eat this plate of bugs to celebrate him beating cancer. No more fear."
As previously reported, Kanye's father was diagnosed with prostate cancer in July. Following Ray's diagnosis, Ye tried to make the best out of the unfortunate situation, choosing to spend quality time with his dad while he received treatment at a Los Angeles hospital. While the 41-year-old rapper and his father weren't on bad terms at the time of Ray's diagnosis, the two had reportedly become distant due to Ray living in Chicago and Kanye living in Los Angeles. So, they both decided to take advantage of the unfavorable situation since they were closer together.
Kanye even brought his children, North, Saint, and Chicago to visit their grandfather in the hospital. "Ray's been able to spend time with him, Kim [Kardashian] and his three grandkids," a source TMZ at the time. The site was the first to report that Kanye dropped everything to be by his dad's side following his prostate cancer diagnosis.
Kanye rapped about his father on the song "Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1" from his album The Life Of Pablo. He later tweeted the song's lyrics along with a heartfelt caption that read, "I cried writing this. I love my Dad."
The lyrics read: "Sorry that I ain’t call you back / The same problems my father had / All his time / All he had / All he had 'In what what he dreamed/ All his cash /Market crashed / Hurt him bad / People get divorced for that / Drop some stacks, Pops is good / Momma pass in Hollywood."
