Word has spread that Lady Gaga is set to make her Broadway debut, as per Rosie O'Donnell.
During the comedian's set for Randy Rainbow at The Paramount, the former TV host reportedly told a New York audience that Funny Girl is heading back to Broadway and she's set on starring in the long-awaited musical. Better yet, Mother Monster will be joining her to play the lead character, Fanny Brice, while O'Donnell portrays her mother, Rose Brice. Interestingly enough, the role of Fanny was made famous by Barbara Streisand in the original 1964 production and 1968 film. She also went on to win an Oscar for the latter. If true, it'd mark yet another footstep for Gaga to follow as Streisand starred in the 1976 version of A Star Is Born.
No official word has come from O'Donnell's set, but attendees of her comedy show took to Twitter to share the news. "Rosie O'Donnell just said on stage that Lady Gaga will play Funny Girl on Broadway and she'll play her mother," one user wrote. "I was there too. That was amazing. I couldn't believe she was saying that," another user replied.
Gaga is on a high as A Star Is Born has surpassed box office expectations during its opening weekend, setting a record for October alongside Venom. While the Marvel film topped the chart, pulling in $80 million in North America, Gaga and Bradley Cooper's melodrama delivered $41.25 million over the weekend. Both figures helped make this the biggest October weekend of all.
