Over the weekend, Billy Corgan explained in great lengths the tenuous process of reissuing the Smashing Pumpkins' albums Machina/The Machines Of God and Machina II/The Friends & Enemies Of Modern Music the way they were supposed to be released: together.
"the good news is that the archive on Machina is easily the most documented of the first 5 SP LP’s, the bad news is there is simply so much to go through that it’s hard to keep track," the frontman explained via Instagram. Given the high interest, I will endeavor to parse out the process."
He then goes into great detail about meticulously going through the archives, parsing out usable tracks, sourcing masters, enduring the legal process between the band and Universal, and so on and so forth, in two equally wordy posts.
"This I spell out for those asking every day ‘when is this box set coming out?’" he concludes. "As of now, there is no easy answer."
Though it sounds like we won't be listening to that reissue anytime soon, the band did treat fans to a previously unreleased Machina track — an alternate instrumental version of “Wound.” We also have their new album, 'SHINY AND OH SO BRIGHT, VOL. 1 / LP: NO PAST. NO FUTURE. NO SUN.', to look forward to on November 9th.
