You've Been Pronouncing This 'Spice Up You Life' Lyric Wrong

It's been more than two decades since Spice Girls dropped their iconic song "Spice Up Your Life" and it turns out we've been mispronouncing the lyrics wrong this whole time. Geri Halliwell (aka Ginger Spice) made the jaw-dropping revelation about the girl group's beloved song on Instagram while sharing the news they're reuniting (minus Victoria Beckham aka Posh Spice) for a new tour. 

She shared the adorable video announcement and quoted the lyrics to "Spice Up Your Life" in her caption, writing "[Spice Girls]-hai-Si-ja-hold tight." It's a super cute reference to make for the big reveal, but many lifelong Spice Girls fans were a bit confused by what she meant at first.

It turns out, most Spice Girls fans have been pronouncing this lyric wrong since the song was first released way back in 1997. The lyrics are actually saying "yes" three times, in three different languages: Japanese, Spanish, and German. This seems *so* obvious when you think about it: the Spice Girls are asking the "people of the world" to spice up their lives in the song, so, it makes sense to incorporate various languages.  

"I was today years old when I found out the lyrics weren't 'ha, see ya, hold tight.' I get it now, yes in different languages. Genius," one fan wrote on Twitter.
