It seems to be an accepted fact that in order to make it big in the music industry, you must, first, get signed to a major label. And while that’s certainly true for many artists, there are other stars who have chosen to forge their own path in the industry, opting instead to either release music completely independently of a label or outside help or to sign with an independent label i the hopes of maintaining significant control over their creative output. We compiled a list of 10 artists who would be considered indie artists -- from Chance the Rapper (who has never belonged to a major label) to Frank Ocean (who made the choice to go independent later on his career).
