Tekashi 6ix9ine's loyalty may cost him even more legal issues.
According to TMZ, the "FEFE" rapper screwed over Fashion Nova by not name-dropping the fashion brand like he not only said he would but contractually agreed to. Following the release of his album Dummy Boy on Tuesday (November 27), a source told the gossip site that the track "MAMA," which features Nicki Minaj and Kanye West, was supposed to mention Fashion Nova. The brand's mention was supposed to be "Splish splash Fashion Nova make that a** phat." However, on the version that was released on his album, Tekashi raps, "Splish splash apple bottoms make that ass phat."
The name change reportedly came as shock to Fashion Nova as the teaser to the track, which Tekashi posted to Instagram before his November 18 arrest, included the Fashion Nova lyric. Not only that but the music video, which was indefinitely postponed after the video set was shot up earlier this month, also featured Fashion Nova branding. In a shot, published by TMZ, the logo was propped up behind a group of models for one of the music video's scenes.
With the deal reportedly locked in (and the supposed proof of the brand's mentioning), Fashion Nova is said to have given 6ix9ine his agreed six-figures ahead of his album's release. Which is why it may become a huge legal problem for the currently incarcerated rapper, given his lyric changed appears to have broken his contract with the brand.
Now, here's where things get even more interesting. A source told TMZ the reason Tekashi decided against the Fashion Nova shoutout was because of his loyalty to Nicki Minaj. According to the insider, Nicki, who is featured on "MAMA," was enraged about the mentioning of Fashion Nova on the track because her nemesis Cardi B has a clothing line with the company. She allegedly asked Tekashi to remove the brand's name from the song for that reason alone and he agreed.
As fans know, this is just one of the many issues Tekashi is dealing with. The rapper is currently being held in a federal prison without bail, facing 32 years to life, after being charged with six federal crimes. Tekashi is being accused of committing a string of crimes with five of his alleged Nine Trey gang members, including "conspiracy with others to commit racketeering, discharging a firearm while committing a crime, committing a crime of violence in aid of racketeering, assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm, and committing a crime in aid of racketeering."
On Monday (November 26), 6ix9ine plead not guilty to the federal charges against him, and his trial was set for September 4, 2019. The "BEBE" rapper will seemingly have to wait behind bars for nearly a year as he was denied bail in his last court appearance. However, it is possible he could be released on bail before his September trial since his bail was not addressed in court on Monday, and his attorney, Lance Lazzaro, plans to apply for bail directly to the trial judge in the coming weeks.
