BTS’ Jimin Surprises With First Solo Record ‘Promise’: Listen

Attention ARMY: Jimin has a new solo project out!

The BTS member delivered fans a year-end gift in the form of his first non-album standalone release, a slow jam called "Promise." The record premiered on Soundcloud (titled as "Jimin's first present") minutes after midnight (December 31) — and it's already received high praises from the South Korean pop star's loyal fanbase.

In the two-and-a-half minute tune, layered with soft acoustic guitar rhythms and delicate vocals, the 23-year-old sings confidently of an altruistic future for himself while encouraging listeners to pursue their own personal happiness. "I want you to be your light baby/ You should be your light," he chants in the dreamy chorus.

According to Genius, "Promise" was produced and co-composed by Slow Rabbit and features lyrics written by both the artist himself and his bandmate RM

Jimin has previously experimented with making standalone material with an abbreviated version of "Serendipity" on 2017's Love Yourself: Her and with a track named "Lie" on Wings the year before.

"Everyone, you’ve been waiting a long time for this, right? I’m finally releasing my self-composed track," the musician tweeted from BTS' Twitter account upon unveiling the track. "It’s a song for me, but it’s also a song for you all. Though I may be a bit lacking because it’s my first, please listen to it. Thank you to all ARMYs who waited."
