Eleven years after beloved rom-com 27 Dresses premiered, the cast reunited for a photoshoot and interview with Entertainment Weekly in celebration of Valentine's Day. In addition to reminiscing about their days on the set of 27 Dresses, Malin Akerman, James Marsden, Katherine Heigl, and Edward Burns also spilled the tea about a potential sequel. Turns out, everybody, including director Anne Fletcher, is on board.

Not only is Heigl interested in revisiting her always-the-bridesmaid-never-the-bride character, she's already imagined a whole story for the potential film. "I think it would be awesome to see, seriously, what are their lives like 10 years later? Do they end up together? I personally think they did,”” Heigl said of her and Marsden's characters. She also imagined what Akerman and Burns' characters are doing, as well. ““I think [Tess and George] have, like, three kids and she’’s made Jane the godmother every time, so Jane has to plan the christenings and the baby showers and the gender-reveal parties, but then all the other bridesmaids [also] make her the godmother. But [Jane and Kevin] can’’t get pregnant.”"

Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna also spoke about the film's most memorable scene - Heigl and Marsden's characters drunkenly belting out "Benny and the Jets" on a bar - came to be. McKenna specifically chose the iconic Elton John song for how easy it is to mess up the lyrics. "It’’s not just that [“”Bennie and the Jets””] is a song that you don’’t know the words to, because there’’s a lot of songs that you don’’t know the words to. It’’s a song that you don’’t know the words to that you sing with a tremendous amount of confidence,”” McKenna explained.

While the movie was being filmed, there were rumors that the song was going to be changed to "Brown Sugar" by The Rolling Stones. When McKenna heard, she fought hard for "Benny and the Jets." ““I called our executive at the studio and then I called the president of the studio and then I called [director] Anne [Fletcher], and I just kept calling people, saying, ‘‘You can’’t change this,’’” she explained.

As for why 27 Dresses stood the test of time? Marsden has an answer for that. ““I don’’t think anybody ever knows when you’’re filming something that’’s going to stand the test of time,”” he said. “”I think there’’s a sincerity to the movie that gives it legs.””

Let's keep our fingers crossed that 27 Dresses: Part 2 hits theaters ASAP!
