If you've got some vacation time coming and are looking to take a trip, you may want to avoid the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, California. Out of the 99 tourist attractions from around the world as ranked by luggage company Stasher, the Hollywood Walk of Fame came in dead last.
Other destinations that disappointed tourists were Machu Picchu in Cuzco, Peru, Ocean Park in Hong Kong and Hong Kong Disneyland. Tourists visiting the Great Wall of China were also disappointed, as that destination came in at #94.
On the other hand, according to the survey, the best tourist destination in the world is the Plaza de Espana in Seville, Spain. Built in 1928 for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929, the principal building was meant to showcase Spain's industry and technology exhibits. Today, the area is mostly used for government buildings. The Matterhorn in Valais, Switzerland is also worth your time according to Stasher. The near-symmetrical peak in the Alps was ranked as the #2 tourist destination in the world.
Closer to home - the only location in America that ranked as a top ten tourist attraction was the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee/North Carolina. Central Park in New York City came in as the 13th greatest destination with the Metropolitan Museum of Art ranking at #18.
Stasher determined the best and worst tourist traps around the world by using reviews from Trip Advisor and Google. They also used ratings of nearby hotels, how safe the locations were and how long it took to get from the airport to a person's ultimate destination.
Still, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce defended the iconic Walk of Fame, pointing out the fact that if it's on the list, it's rated as one of the top 99 places to visit in the world.
In a statement, the chamber said: "The Hollywood Walk of Fame is one of the most-visited attractions in world, attracting millions of visitors annually. To clarify, an online ranking, put out by Stasher - a website for luggage storage - ranks the top 99 Best Tourist Attractions in the World. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is ranked on this list of World's Best Attractions in the World at number 99, alongside iconic landmarks and sights including the Great Wall of China and Machu Picchu.
"We will continue to work to create a best-in-class visitor experience for our millions of guests from around the world who visit the Walk of Fame to see the more than 2,600 enshrined stars of celebrities and entertainers - past and present."
