Tool has announced a handful of spring and summer tour dates in what will be the band's first gigs in about a year.
The perpetually mysterious alternative band is planning performances across North America, the U.K. and Europe from May 5 through July 2.
The tour announcement comes during a period of increased Tool-related activity, as fans eagerly await official word on Tool's forthcoming new album — what will be its first new offering in 13 years.
Band members Danny Carey, Justin Chancellor and Adam Jones have worked on the new material for the better part of the last 10 years. Singer Maynard James Keenan revealed in early 2018 that he was back to composing his vocals after a series of revisions by his band mates on the instrumental versions of the new songs.
Tool finally entered the studio in February or March of last year to begin recording drums, bass and guitar with producer Joe Barresi. Keenan laid down his vocal parts sometime in the fall of 2018 and the band began the "long process of mixing" the album earlier this winter.
Last week, Tool shared a captionless but nonetheless encouraging photo to its official Facebook page depicting Carey, Chancellor, Jones and Barresi with mastering engineer Bob Ludwig at what appeared to be Ludwig's studio in Maine.
The photo signals the end of the album production process is at hand, but the band has yet to offer any confirmation.
