James Blake LIVE in Los Angeles

L.A.'s Hollywood Palladium was the place to be on Saturday night (March 16). James Blake and KHUSHI delivered a moody and vulnerable show to a sold out crowd on the 'Assume Form' Tour, aptly named after Blake's most recent album which dropped mid-January. The audience sang along, swaying to the music while the stage lights emanated in blue, orange, and red tones. From "I could avoid the 405" to "I know it took you a while to get to California," his witty lyrics about the golden state were especially relatable to this crowd.

After the flu and a vocal injury forced Blake to cancel some recent tour dates -- something he hasn't done in ten years -- he seemed to be doing much better, and we're so thankful because there's nothing like hearing "Retrograde" live.

Blake even slid in an unreleased song "about you getting better and people not liking that you're getting better." As soon as it started to play, fans were shouting, "Take us to church, James!"

Drummer Ben Assiter and guitarist Rob McAndrews left the stage for Blake to perform a raw, solo cover of Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You" before saying goodnight and leaving himself. But, it couldn't end there. The three of them returned for an encore of "Don't Miss It' and "Lullaby for My Insomniac."
