Sarah Hyland Proudly Shows Off Surgery Scars From Two Kidney Transplants

Sarah Hyland is being praised for proudly showing off her scars from two kidney transplants in a recent Instagram post. The post wasn't about her scars - the Modern Family actress was poking fun at Ellen Degeneres in a pair of The Ellen Show themed underwear - which is what made the photo so empowering.

While Hyland has often made a point of talking about her kidney transplant scars, this post particular post shows they are simply a normal part of her life and nothing to be ashamed of. The 28-year-old doesn't shy away from discussing her health struggles, either. She suffers from endometriosis, as well as kidney dysplasia, which has resulted in Hyland undergoing 16 surgeries over the course of her lifetime.

She showed off her scars for the first time back in July 2018, which was about a year after her second kidney transplant. Her second post, almost a full year later, is inspiring others going through similar health struggles.

"Seeing your scar brings a smile to my face. It’s barely noticeable and to see you’re doing so well helps calm my nerves as I have surgery for kidney transplant on this coming Tuesday," one follower wrote.

"Be proud of your scars!!! You got thru a really difficult ordeal!!! I know how you feel....i have a scar on my stomach from having a kidney removed in 2014....i used to hate my scars but now they're part of what made me SO strong!!," another added.

"I love how open and real you are," a third follower commented, while another wrote "thanks for your showing your courage and inspiration."

This isn't the first time Hyland has opened up about her health struggles. Just a few weeks ago, the 28-year-old actress spoke with People about the hair loss she experienced as a result of the medication she was taking. She wore extensions while filming Modern Family so her character Haley Dunphy didn't show any signs of hair loss. “My hair that’s growing back now is much curlier than what it used to be,” she said. “It’s like I’m four years old now, I guess."
