Footage of Young Thug's young, underage daughter driving a car surfaced on the Internet Tuesday (June 4) and immediately sparked backlash.
In the clip that appeared to filmed by an adult that was not "The London" rapper, the young girl, who is barely able to see over the steering wheel, is shown driving down an empty street.
When The Shade Room shared the video it quickly drew criticism from stars like Tyrese, who commented, "I’m almost sure DFCS [Division of Family and Children Services] is gonna see this," and Matt Barnes, who simply wrote, "Stupid." Many deemed the act extremely dangerous given that Thug's daughter doesn't appear to be close to the legal age required to drive. In fact, she seems under the age of 10.
Shortly after the clip went viral, a source close to Thug told TMZ the rapper's daughter was "with her mother and driving just outside her home in Georgia." No one else was reportedly in the area and the insider claimed "she only drove for a short time — less than 30 seconds."
Later in the day, Young Thug addressed the situation on Instagram Stories, claiming that he only became aware of the situation after seeing the video online like everyone else. "Never would I Put my child's life in danger nor anyone else's life, i am out of town and that video is clearly in Atlanta," he wrote. "I am a very safe man, especially when it come down to my kids. I am very smart, last thing I'm looking for is clout/fame I have both. Plus she wouldn't dare even ask me could she drive a car... But it'll be handled 'expeditiously.' "
"You people must get smarter then you are to think I'm anywhere near such a thing," he added.
