Kylie Jenner Is Being Dragged For Throwing A 'Handmaid's Tale' Themed Party

It's no secret that Kylie Jenner loves to throw elaborate birthday parties for her loved ones. Remember Stormi World? You know...the carnival-themed party Kylie threw for daughter's first birthday? The one that took up a whole lot at Universal Studios? Yup, that's the one.

Well, Kylie put on her party-planning hat once again to celebrate her longtime BFF Stas's 22nd birthday. There was, of course, a theme for Stas's party, too. Unlike Stormi's carnival themed first birthday, the one Kylie selected for this shindig is getting the 21-year-old reality star dragged on social media. Why? Because she took her inspiration from Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale, which takes place in a futuristic, dystopian version of America called Gilead. The show depicts a society where women are stripped of all their rights, made into "handmaidens" selected for their fertility to give birth to children that will be raised by other people.

Kylie explained her decision in a video posted to her social media accounts. "You know The Handmaid's Tale is my favorite show ever, so, for Stas's birthday...welcome to Gilead." Kylie then takes her followers through the party. She and her friends dressed up in the red handmaid outfits from the show, while the wait staff dressed up as Marthas. There were themed cocktails, as well, called "Under His Eye Tequila" and "Praise Be Vodka."

"With all of the serious reproductive rights fights that are going on, Kylie Jenner gave a ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ themed birthday. This entire family is tone-deaf due to privilege, and don’t you forget it," one critic wrote on Twitter.

"Tell me Kylie Jenner didn't throw her friend a Handmaid's Tale themed party dressed up as a handmaid doing duckfaces and have Marthas at the door and Praise Be vodka....how can you be that tone dead? Honestly disgusting at any time, but especially now," another wrote.

Despite the backlash, Kylie and friends continued to share snaps from the party on social media.
