Recess is over!

Thanks to some talented independent filmmakers, Disney's beloved animated television series Recess is getting a live-action sequel. However, everyone's gang of fourth-graders from the '90s will be all grown up in an untitled direct-to-video sequel from the minds of Jerome Yoo and Kent Donguines.

The project, a fan-made follow-up to the 2001 theatrical release of Recess: School's Out, is currently obtaining its budget from crowdfunding. According to Movie Web, the unofficial fan-film will "bring back all of the kids we remember seeing from the classic cartoon, only now they're in high school dealing with the issues older teenagers face as they head towards graduation and adulthood."

Since the sequel happens IRL, the movie will depict "how the older versions of the characters would look after moving on from junior high." Even though fans can expect plenty others from the original cartoon, here's a quick roll call of the main characters, in case you needed a refresher: T.J. the prankster, Vince the athlete, Spinelli the tomboy, Gretchen the genius, Mikey the gentle giant, and Gus the shy new kid.

As you know, the original 1997 series ran for six seasons before wrapping its 127th episode in November 2001. Even after going off-air, though, Walt Disney Pictures proceeded to release four films based on the series, including the direct-to-video effort Recess Christmas: Miracle on Third Street, Recess: Taking the Fifth Grade, and Recess: All Grown Up.

Yoo and Donguines are still taking donations to fund the project, with a flexible goal of $6,850. Learn more about the project and how to support the Recess fan film over at Indiegogo.
