Earlier this month, Showtime premiered Shangri-La, a four-part docuseries about Rick Rubin. The mini-series follows the famed producer through his daily routine and sees him collaborating with a variety of artists in his iconic Shangri-La studio in Malibu.

In a new clip, we see Mac Miller visit the studio while working on what would end up being his final album, Swimming. He and Rubin discuss the project, namely the late rapper's urge to make it his most personal collection of songs yet — a goal he ended up achieving.

“It’s been an interesting journey for me to realize that the goal here is just to be as much me as possible," he says in the video. "That’s it, that’s the only goal. And how do we get that out of me and into whatever we’re making.”

Miller passed away from a drug overdose in September 2018. He was 26 years old.

Earlier this month, his ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande opened up about her grief during an interview with Vogue. "It's pretty all-consuming," she confessed. "By no means was what we had perfect, but, like, f**k. He was the best person ever, and he didn’t deserve the demons he had. I was the glue for such a long time, and I found myself becoming . . . less and less sticky. The pieces just started to float away."
