Common's list of greatest rappers of all time may surprise you.
Earlier this month, a now-viral list of the "Top 50 Greatest Rappers of All-Time" began circulating social media, sparking an industry-wide conversation about the greatest lyricists to body a beat. Hip hop legends and lovers of the craft all weighed-in on the heated debate, which even led to some hurt feelings.
Most recently, Common, who is known and respected for being "particular about his vernacular," joined the conversation. While discussing his new album Let Love with iHeartRadio, the three-time Grammy winner revealed the lucky rappers fortunate enough to make his list of top five MCs of all time.
"There's a difference between my top five greatest and my favorite [rappers]," he began. "So, I'll start with the top five greatest. The greatest I would go with Biggie, Nas, Jay-Z, 2Pac and Kendrick Lamar. Those would be my top five [...] greatest," he said, noting that it was in no particular order.
"Then my favorites," he continued, "Nas, Biggie, Andre 3000, Kanye [West], and Big Daddy Kane." He added, that my "fifth [Big Daddy Kane is a] curveball, cause that one varies, sometimes they be like, Big Daddy, then it's KRS-One, then it's Rakim, but I'm a Big Daddy today."
