Blink-182 may have released "Adam's Song" 20 years ago, but its message is still as important as ever in 2019. The band's Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker are partnering up for a special broadcast during National Suicide Prevention Week (September 8-14) to help raise awareness about mental health and break the stigma associated with discussing it.
Ahead of the event, AltPress shared a snippet from the special where the bandmates reflect on what the song means to them all these years later.
“‘Adams Song’ was a very personal song for me. It was written about being lonely on tour and then coming home and being lonely when I got home. I still feel that way sometimes, so for me ‘Adams Song’ is just as important now as it was," Hoppus shared. “I’m in a lot better place now than I was when I wrote the song, but I think people go—for me specifically, I go through cycles of feeling great about everything, and I go through cycles where I doubt everything and fall into some kind of dark hole, and music always takes me out of that.”
When he's not touring or making music with blink, Hoppus has found another creative outlet in his side project Simple Creatures. Blink-182 are currently on tour with Lil Wayne, where they're playing Enema of the State in its entirety, including "Adam's Song." Revisit the ode to mental health below.
