New Car Seat Law to Take Effect Nov. 1
October 28, 2019
The old recommendation of a child remaining in a rear-facing car seat until age 1 will no longer be applicable in New York State. Starting on November 1st, children 2 years of age and younger will be required by law to be in a rear-facing car seat.
Research shows that a child's body is not fully developed which can lead to serious or fatal injuries during a crash even if strapped in properly because their spines are not strong enough to withstand the force.
While the law will require rear-facing until age 2, it is still recommended that children remain that way as long as they are within the height and weight restrictions.
There are many locations where you can get your car seat inspected to ensure that it's installed correctly.
